I had another successful day geocaching. Me and my friend Lacey went out to the south fork area of Folsom Lake and found all of the seven geocaches we set out for. The only bad part of the day was that the ticks were out in force. I must have flicked at least 30+ ticks off of me throughout the course of the day. The caches were fun though. We got to see tons of fish in the lake as well. After a brief discussion with a couple fisherman on a boat we found out that the plethora of fish all around the shallows were carp getting ready to spawn. I think I was able to avoid getting poison oak as well, which is an amazing feat for me, I could look at the stuff and catch it.
After we were done caching we went and ate at a little place in Folsom called Kabob Express on East Bidwell. I have had Gyros and a few other Greek/Mediterranean dishes but I tried falafel for the first time and let me tell you it was amazing! Lacey, who has had it before, said it was the best she has ever tasted. So that was a great way to end the day. I love trying new foods!

Snogurt
Man is this a treat! Last summer my friend introduced me to a little Asian market that, in the summer, served a snow cone covered bowl of ice cream. These things are so delicious you would have no idea until you tried one. The problem is that they are only open a few months out of the year. Well our problem has been solved. We found a recently opened frozen yogurt place called Top Culture downtown that has a snow cone machine as well. We went in one day asking the owner if it would be possible for her to recreate this treat we had been craving and she went along with it. A few days later I came up with the idea to call them snogurts and now the owner is going to be putting snogurts as an option on the menu. I have tried a few combinations but the last and possibly the greatest was very vanilla frozen yogurt with root beer flavored snow cone on top. I also squirted a little white chocolate sauce in between for a little added sweetness. If anyone has the means I suggest trying one of these creations, you won't regret it!

Geocaching Success
I had the most successful day geocaching yesterday. Me and a friend, who lives in the downtown Sacramento area, took off on some bikes with the coordinates of four geocaches written down. We found everyone that we set out to find! Besides the success it was such a nice day for a bike ride and we went to the American River Parkway area to hunt, so the scenery was beautiful as well. One of the caches we found had a cool twist. The cache consisted of a container full of pennies; for the log you were to pick a penny out of the container and offer a memory you had of that year. We almost didn't find the penny one though. It was actually the first one we went after and were unsuccessful at first. We went and found the other three, and with our success in that decided to go back and give the first one another shot. Geocaching is such a fun activity, I think everyone should experience it! I am even thinking of hiding a few myself.

I am in shock
I don't remember if I ever mentioned anything on this blog about a friend of mine named Cecilia, known to me and my brother in law as Cece. So let me give a little background. My brother in law, Craig, and I met her in the history class we took over last summer. She is a very vibrant young woman with a love for life and a wonderful smile that could light up a room. She has a son of seven years old from a previous marriage. She is a very fun person to be around and always is willing to share a laugh.
Unfortunately that previous marriage ended for good reasons. Her ex was physically and verbally abusive, very controlling, and quite frankly he was crazy. The only good thing that came out of their marriage was her son. My brother in law and I (mostly my brother in law though) had been talking to her and even giving her info on organizations that help women in her position, hoping that she would finally put her foot down and get him out of her life. She was desperate for this to happen but felt helpless to do so because of all the threats he had made to her in regard to her taking these steps. Nonetheless she was pushing forward and filed a restraining order against him to keep him from breaking into her apartment yet again and doing more harm to her or her son.
Tragically that no longer matters. A couple nights ago her ex decided to take her life and then end his own, leaving behind their seven year old son. The only silver lining I can see in this is that my brother in law had been sharing the love of Jesus Christ with her and she seemed to have an honest desire to know more. I can't say where her heart was at the time of her passing but I ask you to pray for her soul and her family in this time of sorrow.
Proverbs 15:31 "The ear that listens to life-giving reproof will dwell among the wise."
